A sign of the times

Symbols have been used throughout time to create immediately recognisable signs and meanings. From flags to star signs, a symbol conveys an instant message to its audience.

Of course, conveying instant messages to audiences is what social media is all about. Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and You Tube are all used to communicate in a timely, concise fashion. And it’s not just teenagers keeping in touch with their friends! People of all ages and backgrounds are using social media and the smart businesses are using these channels to engage with them. These businesses realise that traditional forms of marketing – show and tell – are not enough. The real goal is having conversations with customers and potential customers. Social media achieves just that.

Just a few years ago, none of us would have believed that a little white bird on a blue background would be instantly recognised by millions of people across the world.

Now that’s a sign of the times!
