Christmas shopping all wrapped up in Grantham and Newark – and no pepper spray required!

Christmas shopping all wrapped up

We all know that Christmas shopping can test the patience. Busy stores and the looming deadline of the big day can sometimes lead to a bit of pushing and jostling in the shops. Jostling is one thing however, but what kind of person pepper-sprays 20 rival shoppers to try to get the best store bargain?

No, really – pepper spray. Apparently that’s what one determined (not to mention demented) woman in a Los Angeles store used yesterday, in an attempt to defend a bargain X-Box games console she had claimed as hers. Elsewhere, there were reports of fighting and near-rioting breaking out amongst crowds of shoppers.

You see, yesterday – the day after Thanksgiving – saw the traditional start of the Christmas shopping frenzy in the United States. In fact, half of the country’s entire population is expected to hit the shops this weekend. And if early signs are anything to go by, it’s going to be a bumper year for retailers.

And with the Christmas lights being switched on in Grantham and Newark tomorrow and the temperatures forecast to plunge next week, it’s time to start your own Christmas shopping.

Here’s a helpful tip to make the experience less tiresome; put the kettle on, make a coffee and then spend some time browsing The Best of Grantham and The Best of Newark. You’ll find information on some of the best businesses in the area, recommended by local people and including special offers.

In Grantham for example, you can get designer clothes and accessories at great prices at Empire Designer Wear, or some fabulous, stylish gifts for the home at Design Works. If you need some new furnishings, a trip to stunning Union Interiors is a must. Westgate Gallery now has a wonderful range of wooden toys which make thoughtful presents for children. And then there’s Downtown of course, Grantham’s very own department store, with everything from electrical appliances to perfume. Everyone loves to be pampered and the new Gatineau Christmas skincare collections at Enhance Beauty are perfect. And, before your Christmas party, don’t forget to get your hair done at UK Hair & Beauty.

Just up the A1 at Newark, you can get the latest hairstyle at Saks Hair or a sun-kissed tan at Saks Beauty. Shopping for bookworms? Why not browse around Stray’s Books and enjoy a delicious coffee while you’re there? Or check out the wonderful works of art in the Winter Collection at Trent Galleries. You’ll also find some great gift ideas from retailers at The Buttermarket Shopping Centre. And if you have a fancy dress party to go to, check out Chuckles for some great costumes and accessories.

So there we are. Christmas shopping all wrapped up in Grantham and Newark. I hope you enjoy the experience a little more thanks to The Best of Grantham and The Best of Newark.

Oh, and please remember… jostle if you must, but leave the pepper spray at home. We’re British, after all.
